Could the induction of algorithms into design processes be construed as an attempt to externalize them?

Could externalizing the design processes empower us to discern multiple design possibilities that were hitherto either overlooked or considered incomprehensible?

Could an algorithmic approach to the design of an environment enable us to document, analyze and tweak/modify the outcome of design processes at every stage as opposed to the traditional approach that lays emphasis on delineating the final product?
